An Inkjet Printer is simply the most common type of computer printers, due to many reasons; it’s the cheapest, most used by consumers all over the world due to its quality of printing.

The major makers of inkjet printers are Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Epson and Lexmark. With smaller makers such as Dell, Toshiba and other general electronics brands, now a lot more people can afford this technology for very competitive prices due to the competition that is taking place among the major brands.

In this article, I will discuss the major advantages of using inkjet printers when compared to other types of printers, mainly laser ones. And also talk about the different types of Inkjet printers.

First of all, Inkjet printers are very cheap and can cost a fraction of the price of a laser printer. They come in very different shapes and colors; you can have the choice even when you are going to pay a very small price. That is considered the most beneficial advantage.

They also have a very short warm up time when compared to laser printers and low cost per page.

And the real advantage here is the fact that the image quality is very high if you compare it to any other type of printer, although cartridges are expensive, they do deliver a good quality; and if that is what you’re looking for, look no further than a simple Inkjet printer.

Inkjet Printers have a couple of disadvantages, the ink is expensive. When the document is printed, you should not touch it because you might damage the quality of the print since the inkjet is water soluble. In other words, when you print the document, it gets out really hot from the printer and if you happen to touch it, you might disfigure it. But that does not happen with other types of printers.

Another major disadvantage of Inkjet printers is that of having an “intelligent” cartridge which tells the printer how much Ink is left in it. A lot of problems happen with this system since some documents come out with an error message saying there’s no Ink left. This problem can easily be overcome if you just ignore and kept printing, but it does make your printing experience worse than with other printers, especially with laser ones.

All brand makers have thought about ways to fix such problems facing ink jet printers; the high price of Ink cartridges have been lowered by a whopping 10% - 30%, which is very good to make cartridges more marketable.

The quality of paper and ink are the main reasons behind the short life of documents. There are two types of Ink cartridges, dye-based and pigment-based. The first is the one that has a very short life, and the latter is a lot better; many printer makers have switched from dye-based to pigment-based so the longitude of documents gets better.
