Konica Minolta was created in 2003 with the merging of two imaging firms, Konica and Minolta. The two companies had been engaged in the camera and photography industry since the 19th and early 20th century. In 2006, however, Konica Minolta withdrew from the camera business due to financial losses. Today the company focuses on office equipments, medical instruments and measuring instruments.
Minolta had entered the printing market in 1990 with their SP101 laser printer. Following the merger, the company began to manufacture products that integrated technology from both companies. Subsidiary companies where established for the production of printer and multifunction units and for inkjet products.
Today the company sells monochrome and color laser printers, and printers that combine copying, faxing and scanning functions.
