The History of Brother

The company was founded in Japan in 1908 as a sewing machine company. After a long business relationship with Centronics (a company now gone from the market) where Brother specialized in building the mechanisms for the Centronics printer, Brother shifted and became a printer manufacturer instead. Both companies made it into the history books when they made the very first dot matrix impact printer in 1971.

Brother is still active in other business areas that are not printer related but have become most widely known because of their strong brand within the printer market. Brother is now considered to be one of the four international top players and produce a broad range of products including Printers, Typewriters, Copiers, Electronic Stationery, Multi Function Centers and Facsimiles.

The Brother printer product line of today includes the Brother AX, Brother HL, Brother M and Brother MFC series.
