Panasonic was originally a lamp firm called Matsushita Electric Industrial, founded by Konosuke Matsushita in 1918. The company had success with their bicycle lamps, and soon began to produce other electrical products. In the post war era the company continued to grew, manufacturing and selling televisions, radios, bicycles and rice cookers.
Computers have never been the main focus, and it was only recently Panasonic began to sell printers. Their main focus is on multifunctional units for printing, scanning, copying and faxing.
It was not until January 2008 the company announced they would change its name to Panasonic Corporation. Originally, Panasonic was a brand name the company used for audio speakers and lamps.
